I'm heading down to college and I am planning on bringin my flytying gear with me.
Does anyone know of any fly tying travel bags or how do you travel with your gear.
I think the easiest way might be to ship it but if you have any suggestions let me know
thanks

I would do what a friend of mine did. he built a wooden portable tying bench and set it up so that it could collapse into its own case. when he wanted to use it he would just put his vice back out and start tying. I dont have a plan for it but I might be able to come up with something after tues. if your not in a hurry. otherwise orvis makes a tying bag that has a bunch of pockets and cases for your materials. or look on ebay.

drop out of school and fish. you can set up a great tying area in the back of your van

I use a Fish Pond bag and also a pice of luggage with wheels on it. Pack it all up and go to UPS Fed-ex or some one and ship over land. A Few years ago I was flying out of Bangor Maine and had a heck of a time getting thru the gate.--127-3-

I just pack it in zip lock bags and stow everything in my checked baggage. Never had a problem with multiple trips out-of-country in the last few years. If you try to carry it on, you will probably be hassled...

I travelled with my tying gear for 10 years and never had a single incident -- except for the scissors thing in Laguardia back in November 2001......
I packed my stuff in ziplock bags (put your cement all alone and be sure that the bag is sealed) and sorted it in a way that made sense i.e. floss and tinsel in one bag, dubbing in another etc....
Now a days you have to check your tying stuff because of the sciccors, dubbing needles etc.... It makes it much faster getting through security.
I never had a problem and its a great way to spend your free time in the evenings.
Good luck in School.

I picked up a fly tying travel bag from BW recently and I really like it: $50.00
Took it on vacation with me this summer and got some serious tying done for fall.
I got it at Tightlines Flyfishing in NJ.

I just usually put everything in zip lock bags and make sure the packing is really good for the more fragile things, and put it as stow away and Ive never had a problem after I set up my bench in my appartment. Ive done it that way since I started college and its worked good for me so far haha. Good luck with the tying
