Tuna bite slowed.... bass slow, bluefish good.
Windy and lots of fronts this week.
Well- The bluefin tuna bite shut down after Sunday this week. We hooked two big fish (80-100lbs)on poppers on Sunday. Moday was a "weird" weather day and I had a great client Frank Prior out, we were scheduled for bass but we opted to look for tuna... well it was not to happen. We saw 1 pod of tuna about a half hour into our spot. Then they vanished? Never saw another tuna all morning, ran into a huge school of porpoise and that was it. We decided to run in and hit a few bass spots. Took a handful of bass on flies before we ended. Tues. decided on another run for tuna but forecast was iffy with wind for late morning ? Flat going out but N wind kicked up quick and we were blown off by 8:30.... all whitecaps and spotting was very tough.
Cancelled today because of wind.. tuna may be done until the weekend with all the fronts going through this week, cold, ripping tides and fronts make for bad tuna fishing. Hope it turns around for next week...great tides, we just need the weather.
Striped Bass has been slow...ok early morning but shuts right down after 9am. Saw a big school of peanut bunker the other day so we are only a couple of weeks away from some great bass fishing for late summer/ early fall. Blues are around and fun on light tackle.
