Have an apartment on the NW shore of PR in Feb for a week with one of my fishing buddies. Looking to target the local juvie tarpon population.

Anyone have any suggestion for boat/ skiff rentals?

Planning on taking light tuna spin rods, 1.5 OZ striper bait rods, 9 - 10 & 14 wt fly rods.

20, 30 & 80# fluro + wire, full rigging kit & crimpers. hand gaff, multiple pliers & tools...

Anything else?

Thinking about shipping all fishig gear down via UPS. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Roop

I don't know about rentals but i went out with a great guide on the west side of the island-an absolute tarpon fanatic. google "light tackle adventure" and tarpon or ouerto rico. i would highly reccomend him. he is out of mayaguez.

If you search these boards, there should be a bunch of threads regarding PR and Tarpon in the lagoons. I fished there late Feb .'06 with Puerto Rico Magic Tarpon and had a good time with Capt. Karim. From what I saw and heard, it's mostly a live bait fishery for the tarpon. The Capt. stated best fly time is summer. We saw many tarpon. Maybe one or two to double digits and for the morning trip boated two to 22lbs. on 8lb. test spinning live bait. Took some good shots with the fly but no dice.

Here's a shot with my son and his catch for the morning.

Thanks for the info guys, just heard back from our host down there & they are hooking us up with a local commercial fisherman with a skiff - targeting big tarpon.

Best of luck,
