Hola
I will be going to school for two weeks March 08 In Merida and will be looking to do some fishing in my spare time  I have heard rumor that the tarpon fishing can be great on that coast. Any info on this area sure would be helpful Towns, local guides, accomidations ect.
After the two weeks of school I will meet up with my wife and head south to the Sian Ka'an Reserve Thinking of staying at ether Zamas bungalows or ce siak a small ecotourism center. will this be a good location to do some DIY fishing?
I am new to this kind of fishing with only a month in Fla. under my belt will be bringing a 8wt 9wt &11wt in my quiver???
I am wide open for suggestions on where to go reasonable guides to use ect.
My wife does not fish So i am looking at a place thats good for the non fisher.
Excited

I was down there a few years ago and stayed at Las Ranitas (sp). It was very nice but a little expesive. I had dinner at Zamas and thought the food was great. Although I didn't stay, the accomidations looked good. I caught fish on my own at the bridge where the bay empties into the ocean. Its in the biosphere about 5 miles down the dirt road from Zamas. Other than the bridge its not a very wade friendly area.

I also used the guide outfit in Boca Pailla which is the little town before you get to the bridge. They were a little more expensive, but good and reliable.

I had booked another outfit but the guide couldn't get out of the lower bay becuase of low water. They kept promising that they would make it the next day but they they never did. So be carefull of any outfits that are a little too cheap.

Good luck!!

Pablo- Send me a PM or email and I'll send you some info on fishing the area as far as guides go... really not much in the way of DIY fishing on the west coast there. Could probably get into some areas by kayak but I think it would take you a week to figure out any productive areas. Very good small tarpon fishing there.....:)
