Looking to get started into butterfly jigging. I've looked around at the trevala rods but not sure which one to get. The F series looks nice. What model do you guys reccommend for jigging tuna on the bank? I've been lookin at the...
-Trevala F series TFC63MH, 30-80lb braid, 110-240G jig weights
-Trevala TVC-66M, 30-80lb braid, 75-200G jig weights
-Trevala TVC-66MH, 50-100lb braid, 110-200G jig weights
Also I need opinions on a reel for them. I'm looking at the Trinidad and maybe the Torium because I don't want to buy a Torsa right now. Should I get the 30 or 40? It'll be used with 65lb braid. I'll just use the flatside jigs with the combo.
One last question, What do you guys run for leaders on the jigging combos? I heard 25ft wind on but wanted to make sure.
Thanks!

Give the Rod Builders Workshop in Kingston Mass a call and ask for Smitty, the owner. He's got all of them in stock, and is a complete wealth of knowledge. There's nobody better in the area to talk to. You won't be disappointed.

I use the TVC58XH 5'8" 80-200 with an Accurate 197 XC.
I tried the spin Trevalas with Quantum Cabo 40 but prefer the conventional. The Accurate 197 or 270 XC is a 6:1 and both hold lots of 50 pound braid. They are also very light so you can jig all day. The drags are the smoothest by far and they are bulletproof.
The Williamson jigs are a little cheaper but have slightly different action. The braid and tormentor are also good.
I always use the wire hooks since there is no difference due to the large braided line on the regulars and the shrinktubing. I is a crime to lose a $10 jig to a Bluefish or Shark or Cuda or any other toothy fish.

if you plan to catch big fish don't buy the shimano, they break. if you like van staal they make the best vertical jig rod aside from custom built. a bail-less VS 50 is a great combo. 80lb braid, 80lb momois wind on to the jig. done. and yes the tormenter jigs kick butt

When you say VS 50 do you mean the 150 or the 250?

which trevela rod have you seen break?? Ive put 3 trevela spinning rods through hell this season, the 6' medium action(which landed a 57" 130 lb tuna hooked accidently while bluefishing offshore) the 6'3" MH rod and the 5'8" XXH rod. each of those 2 rods has caught about 20 tuna apiece up to 95 lbs or so. Ive put pressure on those rods like you wouldnt believe, Im shocked to hear any trevela rod broke.
Im real curious to hear the rod model and the circumstances under which it broke.

had one heavy action snap on a 80lb plus AJ in key west and a MH snap on a 65lb cobia which we still landed. still a good rod for the money but if you are puting seriouse heat on them while jigging, which we do to keep em away from sharks they can break. And they break by the hanle so it is painfull. VS rods don't. The custom Jiga-jo series we make at X-generation custom rods don't break either. Just my opinion. pictured bellow is a great set up if you have the money. notice tormenter jig in mouth:brow

Man, I'm impressed - that's a big AJ - I've just about tried to break an F series on tuna and couldn't ... it's important to know though that it can be done (that must be a brutal amount of drag on the AJs...)
