Been out twice a week since labor day and in general, still waiting for the water to cool a bit to spark the action into more consistent patterns.

I've come across great blitzes of blues. Three weeks ago in Lloyd Harbor there was a football field of blues, all over 8lbs., churning up the mud among the mooring fields. Great fun on an 8wt. with a crease fly. Haven't seen them come up like that since. It was the biggest school of quality fish I've come across in my 11 years fishing this area. All in 5' of water.

We've had more Albie action around this year than all other years combined.
Have had near a dozen great shots, haven't boated one yet, but dropped two after blistering runs back towards my boat. When they've been on Peanut Bunker they've shown more interest in the fly. Lately they've been on bay anchovies and are harder to interest. Friend of mine took two Sat. am on small epoxies. Hopefully they'll stick around as we still have plenty of bait in the area.

Local bass fishing is picking up with the last two trips out seeing chunky schoolies on crease flies and poppers. This past weekend, ran into a great mixed blitz of bass and blues, right in Huntington Harbor, mid morning on the later half of the outgoing. Fish feasting on singled out Peanut Bunker. Yozuri plugs outfished crease flies 4-1, no boilermakers on board but will go with the bigger splash next time around. Dropped a keeper bass taken on a yozuri close to the boat and boated a handful of blues to 9.5lbs. on 10lb test and Crease flies. The best part of this blitz was having my seven year old on board. He bested all the blues and made the mistake of handing me the spinning after getting pooped out on that bigger bass. Nothing worse than when Daddy dropped his fish. :(

Still you get the odd day that it looks like the dead sea. Mucho peanut bunker still in the harbors and some cool weather should really kick start the fall.

Montauk took a 67lb. bass over the weekend. Imagine that on the fly?????
