I have been looking for a place to go in January, The weather in Andros can I am told be iffy with possible cold fronts and there is not too much DIY/wade fishing and I could only manage a day or two with a boat/guide, hence the need to be able to go it alone.
I have heard of Anegada and understand that there are quite extensive flats there and bones.
Is it an expensive place, is there lots of accessible wade fishing, and is it a good place for DIY. Price of food, car rental if one is needed, the net is telling part of the story but I am not sure if it’s telling all. Is it a difficult place to get too, really any info at all would be great, also I guess would it be a good choice for a single at that time of year?
Many thanks for any help

Englishman,

If you're looking to Anegada as a replacement for Andros, you might be dissapointed.
We've done a couple extended trips to Anegada, and here's my take on the place.
Anegada is a lovely corral atoll in the BVI's. The entire island is rimmed by a vast corral reef system, and the beaches, marine life, kayaking, snorkeling is spectacular. Plus, the fishing is pretty good as well. Not "Andros class" bonefishing, but it's decent. The last time I was there, there were only 2 guides working there, Garfield Faulkner and his brother Kevin. With good weather, using either one of them, you would be assured of an excellent outing.:brow
There are several places you can stay. There's the Anegada Reef Hotel, Neptunes Treasure, or a lovely house right on the bonefish flats called Bonefish Villa. DIY is very possible, esp diectltly behind Bonefish Villa.
There are car rentals. They were VERY iffy when we were last there, but I'm told that's improved significantly. There was only one store there at the time, so many folks bring there food in from Tortola.
Getting there, you need to fly into Beef Island, Tortola, then take a small plane into Anegada. No big deal, only a 10 minute flight.
Night life? Not much. I played dominos with the old local men a couple nights till 1am on the hotel cabana, while drinking Caribs. It's my fav Caribbean location. :brow

I caught my first ever bonefish there DIYing about 8 years ago. I fished a flat on the south east side of the island. Not sure about other areas to fish, i would imagine that a boat would be pretty helpfull but the other guys here seem to have fished it more extensively than me. The island is small and i would imagine there's little to do but chill with locals in the evening. as i remember the Island is very low so flats get easily clouded up with anything more than a force 4 coming through. V diferrent to fishing the bahamas, much nicer place, people and culture up there than in the Bahamas though, in my opinion.

Have fun
