after yesterday's nice day in spite of the bad forecast, we met at the dock at 6:30 and headed out. once again, it wasnt bad...untill we got 8 miles out. solid 4-5 foot sea, solid 20 MPH wind. we pushed on because we are idiots and got to the NWC. shut the boat down, begin bouncing in 5 footers with a 3 second period and a gusty 20 MPH wind. all of a sudden, at the absolute limit of my casting range, a pod of tuna starts going nuts. I grab a rod for the first cast of the day and heave a popper 50 yards and manage to hit the bullseye despite the horrid conditions for casting- 2 pops, and a fish EXPLODES on the poper- but misses it--124-3 i keep working it figuring another fish would hit it, but didnt get another hit. they never came back up, so we started drifting. marked alot of fish, but couldnt buy a bite. the seas started getting worse, and since we were looking a driving 20 miles home at 6-8 knots max, we bagged it.

not hooking that fisdh is going to haunt me all day.

I heard ya on the radio today E.
I made it about half way there, could see what I was in for if I continued. bagged it and played around with the cod instead. did ok. long ride home from half way. glad I didn't go all the way, it was howling when I got in.

After yesterday I was hoping they blew it two in a row. Seeing the wind today I thought you might get blown out.

What you need is more Sukha mojo!

If you had a boat on a trailer you could have been into tuna less than 3 miles out of one of my favorite ramps....little guys but there was a bunch of them

yeah kevin, and if you had called me and asked if I wanted to go with you Id have been on them too.;)

you are preaching to the choir kevin- john just refuses to trailer the boat b/c he thinks its such a PITA (#$119) the trailer/boat is hopefully gonna happen next year. after going out with a few guys who trailer their boats, Im done with spending 2-3K on slips. cheaper gas bills, shorter rides to the fish, its a no brainer for me.

did you guys hook/land any?

smoked my wheel bearings on the trailer last week! trailers can be a PIA too! but it is nice to have flexibility. the cost of fixing the bearings is minimal to slip fees! kept my boat in Essex but usually trailer/launch out of Gloucester for proximity to NWC.

nice job on the fish Saturday e-sea-e!

We were on the way back in from a nearshore cod trip (after some trailer maintenance...the down side of a trailer boat) and didn't have time to fish for them in earnest. None for us. They were definitely happy tuna and were feding in current about 1/2 way through the falling tide with terns and gannets all over the place. In...get this...40-60 feet of water.

If the wind hadn't been honking I might have further ****ed Shannon off by staying out longer and throwing flies at them...

was out there with you on Sunday e-Sea taking a beating on the NWC. However we were rewarded with a nice 80lb tune on the butter fly jig. This was the first time we tried that....and the first fish I ever landed on the spinning outfit. What a fight!

We ran into a broken down boat out of Gloucster that we towed about halfway in before he was able to get his enginer going!
