Midwater trawlers are back inshore and what few giants were around seem to have disappeared...Is anyone surprised? I sure hope not!

was on swc this am at first light in a friends 24' Grady...as soon as we get on the bank. the seas get BIG. FAST. We didn't even get a line in. There were some 5's or 6's out there early. We scrambled for Provincetown harbor for cover while it hopefully settled down. It did, but it took awhile. We did see a bunch of tuna and whales before we bailed...was tough to leave without trying, but it was the right decision.

the inshore quota is going to be full soon, but today is the first day that the midwater boats will be allowed in Ipswich Bay and on Jeffreys. They have been fishing a little to the east because of the spawning closure, but that is now expired.

They were all over Jeffreys and way up inside today (midwater boats that is). I talked to a couple tuna boats fishing where they were towing and supposedly the herring were all spawners. Either about to spawn or in the process of spawning. There were also some big tuna starting to bite, my guess is that this midwater pounding will shut that right off.
