I think we are gonna be into them for a long time to come. I went out yesterday at 4pm and chased 60-80lbers smashing half beaks 4 miles off the beach for 2.5 hours. 56 degree water didn't stop them. The SW wind came up huge and made it difficult in the short time period we had....Wish I were out there now --124-3

Last year we were on the SWC Nov 6th surrounded by them. Went to NC the next day for a week of Albies wondering why I left the Tuna (#$119)

Mike,

I think you are one of the lucky ones to have found fish yesterday. I personally covered a good amount of water from Plymouth to PTown and talked to others who hit Fishing Ledge and other areas in the bay and we didn't see one fish on top. Not saying they aren't around but I don't think they are as thick as this post might suggest.

Before we got washed out in the bathtub on the swc yesterday am, we saw a bunch of tuna crashing in the waves....on the ride home when it flattened out, say 5-6 miles from Scituate, we saw a more extended feed going off about 300 yards in front of us....while I used my numbed fingers to try and tie an allbright knot (three times before I got it right), they had moved on. Note to self (which i usually adhere to) ALL KNOTS AND LINES RIGGED BEFORE LEAVING DOCK. But the fish were definitely there.

I never said in my post they were thick as thieves (#$119). Just that we got into em good. I will say I found them and they are strong enough in numbers to chase. Frank found em and Terry just posted that he was into today. Sounds like they are pretty thick out there then. Sorry you didn't see them. That sucks. I also see fish from my tower that most people don't. It sure is awesome to get into anytime after 10/15. I will be after them for another 2-3 weeks.

Got two fish on tue and a whack from another on wed in the same spot that mike speaks of. They are as thick as the post suggests.

Sean,

You need to put a tuna tower on that Jones Brothers and then you can keep up with the pros.

How many of those big tuna did you hook on the fly from your rig this season? At least a dozen as I recall.

At least I didn't spend all day on the water covering the bay and beyond without seeing anything. For a week we have been running 7-10 minutes and making our first casts. I don't know, I must be wrong. I guess I'll put my gear away for the season.

Didn't mean for my post to come off as a know it all. Just trying to give another view of the bay tuna fishing for those like myself who travel a good distance before the boat even hits the water and are only interested in fish on top. Glad to hear they have been around for you Mike. Certainly gives me a better idea of where to start if I do make another attempt before the seasons out. :)

Rob, I think we did very well on the fly this season but had a lot of help from a few pros who were willing to share extremely valuable intel. Probably might not have landed any if it wasn't for the first few pointers on where to look.

When I read the title to this thread I thought tuna off the beach was illegal!!!

I guess off the beach has a different meaning for boat folks. Off the beach to me is 100 yards. Sounds like a good time eitheer way.
