Just posting this to save others some fuel. We haven't done this poorly all summer. Kind of expected this time of year to be more exciting.

Did a lot of scouting on Sat. Forecast was ugly but the weather turned out great! Left Plymouth late, @ 9:00, and went straight to SWC. Saw a few real small fish break in the high flyers, mid bay, but didn't stop. They were tiny. Made it to the corner and found it was a dessert. No birds, whales, bait or any other life to be seen (only one other boat). Slow cruised the edge 3/4 way to old BE then crossed on top to SE corner, circled over towards Peaked Hill and then went east to the edge. Nothing at all. Came back along southern edge of Stellwagon and down inside to Wood End. I think you could have counted the birds we saw on one hand. Only exception was in tight to the bath house @ Ptown where there were schoolies and sand eels.

Sunday, we decided to go south to the canal for stripers. Figured between Plymouth & canal we'd find something entertaining. Not the case. Very quiet.

Decided to play hooky yesterday. Went back to the bank, to the BE and east. nothing had changed. Finally saw a couple(3) of whales on the eastern edge of middle bank, but they were sleeping.

We didn't mark much for bait all three days. Maybe we should hope for a good NE blow to push things back in?

Saturday, took my buddy out who has seen limited time in the water due to the birth of his first kid, 3 weeks ago. The same guy who has been ragging me on all season log due to my family committments (I have 2 girls) looked like he was ready to kiss the ocean, he missed it so much. A Promise to his wife of 3 lobsters, allowed a n additional 2 hours on the water. We were headed for stripers in marblehead, when I noticed the wind dying down. So we decided to take a peek a few miles off 1/2 way rock. a few miles turned into 9 miles out to the dump. The time was 2:30 pm. I called another of maddies finest on the horn, and told him it looked fishy. He was at the dock in marblehead. He quickly changed his plans and grabbed his fishing partner an blasted out to the dump. We started at the stern of the big green lng tanker, and chased fish east for the next 2.5 hours. We had 7 or 8 real legit shots at small 30 pound tuna. I broke one off on striper tackle, which is another story, as the other person on my boat enacted the "I have a newborn, have not been on a boat in 3 weeks tuna fishing, therefore even though I forgot to bring a rod, I will grab the only set-up that can land a tuna on the boat rule" We also had a blue shark up on the surface. Plenty of bird action with multiple pods of fish. My buddy in the other boat had the same issue that the fish were up and down pretty quickly.

With that trip fresh in my mind, after sundays blow out, We were on the same grounds monday at dawn, then to the NWC, then back to the dump, then along the coast by Gloucester. With the exception of some dolphins, nary a bird nor tuna was seen as we beat the ocean to a froth looking for them. a quick stop inshore yielded a few cod and blues on the humps off Marblehead.
