Beto or Fernando at Costa de Cocos.

Fernando has a knack for finding big permit.

Where did he find these permits ? In the laguna or elsewhere in the sea ?

Costa de Cocos, Xcalak.

Fernando put a friend on his first permit, and it went 28lbs.

Is that website still active? I have sent Capt Castro several emails to book trips & never got a reply. has anyone else got any responses from his site? DOes he work with one of the lodges down there?

See my note above. Victor is www.xcalak-flyfishing.com. The other takes you to Costa De Cocos.
Victor has always responded promptly to my and my friends emails. He's a very nice fellow, speaks excellent english and keeps a ship shape panga.

We booked our trip last February through the Tierra Maya hotel, and they put me on an excellent local guide. Try: http://www.tierramaya.net/

Victor Castor website is still very active.

I am going to Xcalak in 2.5 week (Am there from 10-18 jan-2008. ) and have booked Victor for a number of days. If he does not respond back immediately it could be because he (and whole of Xcalak) is still working to recoup for the hurricane that hit them.

I also have (almost)weekly contact with the owners of http://www.tierramaya.net/ (hotel Tierra Maya) . The keep telling me that the fishing has greatly improved after the hurricane. We will see …

I will post a report when I return.
