I am going out tomorrow from 7-1030....there are still pogies around down here. I am pulling the boat tomorrow afternoon, but think I may keep it in my driveway in case this warmth holds and I get a shot at some november fishing, which would be a first for me.

I haven't quite given up yet, but reports of 4-6' with 20-25 winds make it too sporty for my 21' cc East of Chatham. Hopefully later this week or the weekend.

I was out around peddock's this am with my dad- it was crankin w-nw 20-30. Not a bird or pogies to be found, though my marina is full of silversides and shrimp. Boat coming out at 2 pm. It was a great season.

if the wether ever cooperates and lets people get offshore, you'll find tuna for 2 more weeks, minimum. I'll be out there as often as the weather lets me between 10/31 and 11/4 and I'll be shocked if we dont get fish.

My boat is on a trailer in the driveway and I am already having withdrawal fits. 2 friends have dropped by with bottles of wine for MY WIFE to celebrate that the season is over......but it's not over till I say it's over. I told my wife to remember that it is STILL in the driveway, but more than likely, I am all done. I like to pretend that I am tough.
I apologize for not recognizing NC was talking about tuna. I would kill for another shot, but schedule likely will not permit within the window that kevin mentioned- even on another's boat. Kind of gave me the willies last weekend being out on the swc with no other boats in sight (I was with my regular tuna buddy), and having some relatively scary issues with the size of the seas.

The draggers were seeing them off the Mudhole well into January last season. The fisherman leave before the bluefin do.

I most likely won't be going to North Carolina this year so I will be fishing CCB and the backside on good weather days til Thnxgiving. Our last day out there last year was 11/15 and we left them out there...too cold that day .

Hello Twofin I truly enjoyed your post this year you rule. What was your biggest this year?

frank-
Size varied more this year (good sign) and it wasnt like last year when every fish was a monster. But definitely some big ones around. The biggest one we got was a touch under 110 inches...dont remember what it dressed but it was probably 650+ pounds whole, roughly.
There were some really big ones caught this summer. One of the harpooners out of Gloucester got one that *dressed* over 700 pounds, which is pretty close to a 1000 pounder. Also, a guy from a harbor next to ours who we work with at times had a shot on one off southern Maine that was reallllly big...this guy has caught an 1100 pounder before and he claims this one was bigger. He got real close to it, and he is good enough to know what he is talking about.
Up and down the coast you can find slammers that live in close to shore. You always see them jumping- one here, one there- but can never seem to get close enough to get a chance. The bigger the tuna the smarter the tuna.
There is at least one that lives directly off our cove, everyone has seen him from shore. Its the same thing that you see down in CC Bay...those big ones they get with the bluefin on kites. They seem to love it way inshore. But again, those ones are almost always too smart to get close to (but not always. :brow )
The ones we really want are the ones that are somewhere between 85 and 95 inchers. They are the ones that are able to get real fat and are really ideal size. Those were the size fish that really seemed to disappear when the midwater boats were doing their most damage (maybe because they seem to travel in the biggest bunches and so need the most food).
This year, especially early in the season, we saw good numbers of that the 90 inch fish...hopefully a good sign of things to come. :brow
Also, there is an absolute motherload of fish in the 65-70+ inch range. We have had tons of small fish for years now that were getting close to the 73 inch limit, but this year more than any other, you got the feeling that maybe next year we will see some of those recruiting into the fishery.
