Visiting Montauk for a few days. Tried the surf by Turtle Cove on Sunday when the NW wind was howling. Found thousands of rainbait on the sandy beach....looks like I missed a blitz by a few hrs. Later met up with some surf guys who confirmed that the area "lit up" around 1pm with keeper bass for all.
Eventually got out on the boat for a few hrs with my wife yesterday around 3-5pm. Never made it past Shag, as there were thousands of birds and school after school of fish. We could watch very big stripers swirl on the surface but everything we tried was instantly consumed by 3-10lb blues. Lost lots of flies but still fun. Eventually, we went to sinking lines and big deceivers and got lucky with a few bass-biggest was 31 inches. Earlier in the day we were walking around the point and saw many schools up on the surface out there....that got us going to the boat. So, lots of fish around right now. No signs of albies.....may be done for the year.
Looks good today-may get out this afternoon

FWIW, Saturday was an EPIC albie day at the point. schools an acre across shoulder to shoulder and hungry. Don't know if the blow Sunday finally pushed them out

Just read an updated 10/31 report from a Martha's Vineyard tackle shop and Edgartown Harbor is still loaded with bait and ALBIES. This might be a record this year out east if it doesn't cool down too quickly which conversely would help the bass IMO. Maybe guys from Harker's Island will head north? :)

There were albies yesterday (and lots and lots of other fishies). This year is both the earliest and latest I've caught albies.
