Never been there but been twice to Andros South, a great lodge just down the road with somewhat less fancy accomodations than Bair's Lodge (even though you get your own room at Andros South). You will wade alot and likely as much as you want to (my preference), so make sure you have decent wading boots. In the past I used lots of Gotcha type flies, especially anything with rubber legs seemed to work well. Also, the Peterson spawning shrimp are very popular.

One more thing: there are lots of 'cudas. You want to be prepared for them with crease flies, poppers, etc. The second time I went down there I brought a spinning rod and cast a popper which was quite hoot.

Great lodge- the 1st one I've ever re-booked at. I'm returning there at the end of March. I have no knowledge of Dec. fishing there. If the fishing and weather are conducive, you should get plenty of wading opportunities on the vast flats off the southern end of So. Andros. Let us know how you do. I'd like to hear some 1st hand experience of fishing there at that time of year.

Andros is a playground for flats fisherman (and offshore!), given good weather you can virtually do whatever you want if you are with someone who is in-the-know. As far as flies go, really all you need to bring are tan/white clousers and gotchas in vastly ranging weights, although you will mainly be using heavier flies (make sure you have some lead eyes!). And when I say gotchas I mean anything similar. I like to add rubber legs with touch of orange and also prefer to use arctic fox fur as the wing. Also, it is a good idea to bend the first 1/8 inch of the hook shank to a 45 degree angle so you are guaranteed a good, stable fly that wont turn on its side in tidal currents. Permit around Andros are ungodly large and are notoriously finicky at times. If they are in the mood to eat, they will hit a tan/white clouser or standard crab pattern, or even gotchas. Other than those flies, I would bring some standard cuda flies and a handful of deceivers and poppers for jacks and other fun fish.

I will let you know how we do.Less than two weeks have my gear packed just
waiting for the bell to ring. We booked this week for the tide everything being
equal we should have very good conditions for tailng bones. Dont think we
will need many heavy flies bringing a few worst case Bairs has a fly shop in
lodge. I will post results when return.
Cheers!!!

While I never been to south andros but fished joulters to fresh creek to bering point to middle bight and west side from Red Bays to little loggerhead for over 25 years...I would never rely on any Bahamian fly shop to have flies...IMO take clousers both lead eyes and bead...charlies...smaller merkins...colors... match the bottom...but always include chartreuse, white, gold

Have plenty of flies just not too many lead eyes thats all we plan on more
shallow fishing less deep creeks thats all.

Hey,

Does anyone have experience with taking video while wading? Are there
disposable video cameras that you can use to harness to shoulder or hat?
Let me know if you have any ideas. thanks
