I was hoping to to be posting my flats fishing success here after my visit to Xcalak in Mexico. However, sad to say the trip never happened due to my wife hurting her back the morning before we were to leave--124-3--124-3. Fortunately we had trip insurance which should cover our accomodation costs... We used frequent flier miles so they can be deposited or re-used before 1year of purchase date. The main reason we got the insurance was airline/weather problems but as you can see Murphy's law is always lurking out there.

Good for you chucknduck (not missing trip but at least having the Ins. back-up)
I always suggest guys get some but you know $$ talks. Anyway- Here is a good one I use and have clients who use it as well. I KNOW the site mods don't like other webs posted up but i think this a valuable asset to everyone traveling so check out http://www.sportsmanstravelinsurance.com/travelinsurance/buy.aspx

You can usually get an average priced trip ($1800-$2500)covered for about $150 give or take. Very decent......

Chuck, sorry to hear about the Wife and the lost trip. Will you let us know who you had your Insurance with and if they pay off ?

The older I get the more I think about Trip Ins.:)

Thanks

I have always used TRAVELGUARD. They sell a "sportsmans" policy which has a higher baggage allowance. It costs about $150.00 for a $3500.00 trip. They cover pre-existing medical conditions if you buy the insurance within ten days of booking your trip. I have never had to file a claim but I did contact them when my fly rods decided to spend a few extra days in Cancun.
I spoke to a real person quickly and she told me to call her back as soon as the airline declared my bag lost, thankfully my gear showed up the next day

Never Leave home without it.

I had a trip planned to Belize got sick, Throat Cancer and did not bounce back as fast as was anticipated and had to reschedule. I booked through a travel agent and got my insurance through them as well.

Long Story Short, got my Eight Grand back, and rebooked later in the year and did a Two for One Special. Got to go to the same place and ending up saving $2500 in the process.

The only caution I would give is make sure that the insurance covers airfare also, it can be purchased with or without Airfare protection. You need to be clear on that.
