Taking the family to the inlaws for the Thanksgiving weekend. I will be taking a canoe and hope to break away with my 13 year old for some fishing. We will be in South Miami, Old Cutler/Kings Bay(dont know what its called now) area.

In the past, we have put in at the Coral Reefer Park launch and hit the canals for Peacock Bass. Is this a good time for this species. Any better suggestions?

We would also like to spook some bones. Can anyone share a spot. I have put in at a public area near a historic mansion(?). Is there a better spot? My 13 year is itching to see, take a shot at, a bone. (yes he fly fishes, only wish I did at that age!)

Bonefishwhisperer are you out there? Will buy beer if anyone wants to come along.

I'm aways north of Miami so will not be of much specific help. But, you should have a good shot at Reds and Trout and maybe Spanish and/or King Mackerel.

I'm surprised nobody from that part of state has responded. You should check out this web site for specific places to fish. They have forums for reports by county and a lot of forums where you can ask questions. Goto: www.boatlessfisherman.com (http://www.boatlessfisherman.com)

You might want to post your question on the Fla Sportsman website, either on the fly fishing board or on the south florida board. That's where the majority of anglers on line will be found down here....

the cooler weather and winds might make it difficult for the flats.. i would stick to the canals..around the falls area is not a bad place to start. i have caught some big peas there. Good Luck

Post report,
One peacock, no bones. We fished the canals around the Coral Reef Park. The "pea" ate a Caves Wobbler of all things- gold, shiny and sinks.

The tide was too high and the wind blew out any chance of finding a bonefish.

Thanks to Franco of the Biscayne Fly Shop for the insight of where to go and what to throw( anything that sinks and looks like a shiner).
