Guys,
I'll be visiting the in-laws in March and was wondering if there was any DIY fishing in Clearwater Beach. They are staying right across from the marina in Clearwater but I will have a car if I need to head out.

Any advise on flies, tides, and non-specific areas would be great. Any fish along the beaches that time of year? Please feel free to PM me. Thanks for the help!

Stephen,

Since nobody from that area has answered yet, I'll jump in and give you some general information. I have found this web site to be very helpful; especially if you don't have a boat: www.boatlessfisherman.com (http://www.boatlessfisherman.com). They have forums to cover area by area and they are very quick to reply to folks like yourself seeking information

I have found white Deceivers, tied with polar bear or PB imitation to be the best all-around fly here on the east coast. Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout and others will jump them. I tie them from 2-1/2 to 5 inches and quite sparse. Another good fly is the Dahlberg Diver in Brown, Yellow, Red and combinations of same.

That said, I don't know the areas on the West coast where you will be going but you should have some good fishing off the beaches and around the inlets. Check out boatless fisherman and you should get a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Good luck,

En Fuego

Steve,

March is spring break in Clearwater. Get up early (first light)and walk the north end of Clearwater beach in the am for snook. Clearwater Pass on the inside portion. If you can drive to Honeymoon Island in Dunedin and dunedin causeway are good places to wade. Is has been awhile since I have been on the beach but there used to be a pass that separated Clearwater from the mother of all beaches- Caladesi Island. If you can make it across its all good. From the marina I would drive north as far as you can.

There real are a lot of flats in the intercoastal waterway behind Clearwater. You need a boat and guide to almost all of it.

Clousers; green and white, brown and white. Anything white and flashy. The bait of choice for snook is the scaled sardine(white bait. green back).

Post again when you get closer to coming.
