Hi All,
I will be vacationing south of Cancun in January, and would appreciate any recommendations for fly-fishing guides in the area.
Thanks much

If you will be in the vicinity of Playa del Carmen, I would recommend taking the Playa fast boat (ferry) to Cozumel and fish with Nacho or Alberto Eaun. Their website is www.bonefishcozumel.com

I'll be in Playa del Carmenin mid January. I don't have a full day or half day to get a guide, but was thinking of bringing a rod down to fish the beach fronts before or after the beach goers are there. does anyone have any recomondations for rods or plugs? I'm thinking 8.5' spinning rod and poppers for cudas or jacks, but am open to all suggestions. I'm assuming the bonefish will stay away from the surf, which was pretty big last time I was there.
Thanks for any advise.

Not sure of wind direction that time of year. But with that said, it has been expalined to me that as the land heats up, eastern winds pick up. And the incoming waves will knock you on your (fill in the blank) Your best shots are sunrise to 10 AM and dusk to dark, otherwise it is battle, especially for flyfishing. "Personal Opinion" the jacks will hit just about anything as will cuda. And as a "fish hugger", bend your barbs, catch and release everything, and no treble hooks. Again a fish-hugger's personal opinion on gear.
