Depends on your budget. The fishing is excellent in most regions that have operations set up. For lower budget trip Las Salinas and Las Brujas are good options for bonefish and tarpon at the later. There is a range of mid price range liveaboard options to the Isle of Youth and Jardines de la reina that give you permit, tarpon and bones. Cayo Largo will have opened up under new operators by then. This is high end price wise.

It's probably not a good idea to publicly state you're going someplace it is illegal for US citizens to go.
I doubt anyone in the UK, where he's from, is going to have an issue with him going to Cuba.

Unless your just dying to do the whole Carribbean thing, I would try the Seychelles since it couldnt be much farther than Cuba from the UK. I would love to fish there someday. Keys size fish with Bahamas numbers. Also, a giant trevally would be pretty amazing. Either way you slice it, neither one of those places is bad, but the Seychelles seems to me more desireable, since it hasn't been industrialized like Cuba in the past 40 or so years.

MatM,
Who are the new operators on Cayo Largo ? I was there at the end of October & Casa Batida were just opening up the week after I left but I didn't hear anything about a new outfit, do you have any more details ?

Hi John,
I beleive Avalon have taken over the contract begining April 1st and have exclusive rights. Not sure how much of a difference this will make on the ground though.

Just checked Avalon's site & you're right, they're taking over as of April 1 next year. Still a pricey spot though at $5k for six days of fishing, plus airfare to get there ! I don't know how they come up with their prices though. If you look at the price for a non fishing guest they charge around $2k but you can get a charter out of Montreal or Toronto to the same place for around $1200 and that includes airfare. Often for a lot less on a last minute booking.
