I had the pleasure of fishing with Scott Wessels from Taunton, Ma. the last few days. We did some night fishing for Snook and Tarpon on the evening that Scott flew into Fort Myers airport. We found some Tarpon and Snook crashing on shrimp under the lights. They were very selective and even though we each had one on very briefly we went home around midnight empty handed. It was great to see a 20 lb. Snook blow up on Scotty's fly even if he did have his head down attending to a knot in his fly line. The weather was perfect and when we left the water the air temps were still in the 70's and the skies were perfectly clear. These Snook seem to feed better when the weather is down right nasty.

On Sunday afternoon (after the Patriots game) We headed deep into the backcountry on foot armed with a fly rod for Scott and small spinning outfit for myself. When we got through the knee deep water (after all the rain) and found some saltwater, we found some reds feeding at the head of a small creek. I hooked up on a small topwater plug almost as soon as we got onto the sandy bottom. I managed to land a beautiful Redfish around 12 lbs. in the very narrow small creek with little or no water. It was very cool to see a fish of this size in this type of enviornment. Scott and I eached landed another redfish before dark and we slogged back to the car, wet and muddy, but thoroughly having enjoyed the afternoon bite.

Monday we paddled the kayaks into another river system where I have had some great success for winter time Snook. Immediately after we launched the kayaks we were surrounded by Mullet by the thousands and there were some Snook and Reds moving around the very shallow water with them. We got out of the kayaks and waded in water less than knee deep. It was very difficult to get close to these fish, but I did manage to hook up with a 10 lb. Snook on the same topwater plug the Redfish fell for the day before. It was to be the last fish that we would bring to hand, but we did get some other shots at reds in very shallow water.

There were some very cool pigs rooting around at low tide ~{--}>
