With the passing cold fronts the past week fish have been very difficult. In some cases places that were holding fish a week ago are blank. In other cases the reds have moved into new areas with force and are willing to chase down anything that comes near them. The key is to find these fish before they see you or the boat because they are in such shallow water that they bolt once they see you. I have also been Snook fishing after dark. Pretty much a complete bust the last couple days. Still pretty cool to be on the water after 8:00 pm. in a sweatshirt. One afternoon we poled up on a group of Snook that were completely unwilling to take any of the artificials we through at them. In the group were several large Snook. As we started to leave the area we spooked out one last Snook that was sitting about 10 yards aways from the rest of the group. We never really even got a chance to cast to this monster, but it was super cool just to see him in shallow water. I estimated the Snook around 50" and at least 40 lbs. Although these Snook are very hard to catch at this time of year they push into the backcountry looking for shallow water and some of the Snook here in Southwest Florida are the largest in the world. The tides are very strong in the next week so fishing for the reds should be awesome...
