Hello everybody,
First things first, FISHING IS GOOD!
And is better then last year (at least I think)
In Xcalak there is no damage to any of the reefs or fishing grounds. In the bay things might have shifted a bit. But the fish are there is LARGE number and big and fat one's too.
The visibility of the Hurricane's damage can be seen at the gas station just past the Xcalak cut off and in the trees on the way there. They have now moved the military post from the Xcalak cut-off to the start of the Mahahual road (exit of 307). Also the sign pointing to this exit is gone. But as it goes for fishing in Xcalak it is a great or better then before.
The word is out that there are more Snook and Bone’s this year. We found a DYI spot where the 3 of us fished for a day and caught around 50 bones….And some of them where NICE. But due to wind shifts 2 days later we only caught 2 there….. Go figure….
As for Victor, he now has 2 boats. A new one and the old one he was using and his son is using it. Heard some good feedback from him. Also heard from different divers that all is well in and around Xcalak, but to the north the coral is dying because it got cover with sand…So to sum it all up it was once again a great vacation with a nice 35” baby tarpon to top it of.
Go with confidence, the fish are there and enjoy the time away. It is not going to be long anymore and it will be over run…….
