So, I finally got my ice auger in the mail. I picked one up on ebay and now I'm dying to get out and give it a try.
I don't know how I feel about going out this weekend. After the recent couple days and the rain today, I'm thinking it might be a wash this weekend.
Anyone feel the same way?

Hope it's not a power auger. Heard they were recently banned on Mass. waters.

If that's true, there are a lot of guys breaking the law as we speak. (Not me though, I use a hand auger).
As for ice safety, the larger, deeper ponds, river coves, and any water that has inlets/outlets should be checked carefully now. There are a couple here in Central MA I was fishing earlier that I would not fish now, even with planks (#$119).

Yeah, as this is my first set of ice fishing gear I just went with a used but in good condition hand auger from Eskimo, an 8" auger.
I probably won't go out this weekend given the temps. I'm really itching to get out now that I have my stuff together.

???
I don't think this is true--I didn't see it mentioned on the mass wildlife website. Is this a rumor, or did you see it in the 2008 regs?
