My wife and kids and I are planning on a two week trip in the middle of June. Can anyone recommend a lakefront place with decent fishing? We've looked at Wetherbys, Grants and a few others. What I'd really like is a cabin on the lake with a dock. Anyplace in Maine, VT or NH will work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

How fancy? You mention Grant's and Waetherby's- is that your target type of resort?

Wilson's on Moosehead has a beach and dock, but you do your own cooking. Of course, the East Outlet is right out your door.

Remember, that's black fly season.:brow

Lake Dunmore in Salisbury VT is a nice option. June puts you in ahead of the crowds, it's a lake that has coughed up state record rainbow and large mouth, has a healthy salmon population and is close to half a dozen trout streams.

We used to go to The Birches Cabins. We haven't been up there for 2 years. They are right on Rte 6 in Topsfield on East Musquash Lake. June is usually prime bass fishing and as previously mentioned comes complete with blackflies. The cabins are not real fancy, all but one are old but maintained and Gil & Sue are great hosts. There is a shallow gravel/sand boat ramp with a dock that the kids would swim off of. They used to have a plan where you could get meals, don't know if they still do. With at least 8 of us between the 2 families we always cooked our own. We shopped in Lincoln on the way in and if we ran out of anything there was an Irving Gas & Convenience at the Jct of 1 & 6 not far, or a grocery store in Princeton. Grand Lake Stream, Junior Lake, Baskahegan, Jackson Brook & Woodland are all other great waters to fish. If you do go and take Rte 1 between Rte 6 & Calais, make sure you slow down to the speed limit in the Passamaquoddy Reservation by Princeton. They have their own police and love speed traps.

I wouldn't recommend Weatherby's. There's not much (i.e. nothing!) to do in GLS and the surrounding area except fishing, so unless all your wife and kids want to do is fish for 2 weeks, go somewhere else.

I'd give this place a try, they have family programs and lots of activities: www.aldencamps.com

Some one mentioned it above but I would reiterate that if your wife and kids are not used to balck flies, that's could be a tough time of year. They are brutal in Maine and the Adironadacks that time of year. For whatever reason, I think it's the soil content, they are not as bad in VT. Not sure about NH. You might want to look at the Connecticut Lakes in Northern NH. There is good fishing in the lakes and ponds and rivers and there are lots of other things the wife and kids can do close by. I think there's a place up there called the Lopstick Lodge that is nice on the 1st Conn Lakes.
