I am going to Key West with my cousin 1st week of April. I flyfish, he spinfishes. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a flats guide down there. Any help appreciated - Thanks!

Most of the better guides will be just about booked up now for early April... whoever you pick, call and commit quickly if you want to get out with them.... Lots of great guides down there, you might want to decide exactly what you're wanting to do since many specialize in particular types of fishing. Good luck.

ok I will qualify. I am dying to catch a tarpon. Had one on once for 15 seconds. Probably the most memorable 15 secs of my life! Would also love shots at bonefish or permit and would not turn my nose up at other flats species if no other choice available. Am ready to book a guide right now. Just did not know where to look first. Call Salt Water Angler? Call from an ad in back of flyfishing magazine? Pick one at random from internet? Was hoping someone could steer me to good guide who won't have a problem with my cousin spin fishing but can guide me - a flyfisherman. We are veterans for Cape Cod stripers but relative rookies for Florida gamefish. Just looking for a good guy/guide who can put us on some tarpon etc for mid week charter.

Thanks for any help.

Mxer, again from NE Forum,
Out with Justin Rea late last march, hooked a tarpon approx 90#, fought for 1 hour and forty five minutes on ten lb. braid with a 20 lb leader. Never got a hand on the leader = no catch.
Also caught about 8 other species, including barracuda and a permit.
I am now looking at the mount of the permit, dreaming of the 3rd of Feb, when I will be "on the water" with Justin again.

Justin Rea's just great. I fished with him in the Marquesas last year, throwing to cuda and shark, later to permit. It was an awesome day, and I learned a ton. He's in Sugarloaf Key, I think, but ran down to a marina just north of Key West to pick me up. Have fun.
