The last few days Here in Boca Grande have been cool and windy. I have been able to find some beautiful schools of Reds and a couple monster Sea Trout on the flats in the cooler weather. It has not always been easy hunting so when someone is able to get into a nice fish on the fly rod it has been reason to rejoice. After a couple long days of charter fishing the flats around boca grande with mixed levels of success and failure I was ready to return to my roots and become a Snook Hunter once again.

I headed out with my little guy Zachary and fellow fly fishing professional Jason Lynn from Boca Grande Outfitters. We set out for some action and maybe if we to get lucky find a monster Snook. I personally thought it was entirely posible, but only because I have pulled it off at all times of year before. As we fished several different areas I had one spot in mind. I slowly was working towards that spot at the end of the day (should have gone straight there). {side note:} I returned home from the Somerset Fly Fishing Show with a new Scott Fly Rods ball cap. I had a feeling that this was not only a lucky cap, but the last cap that I had was not really full of mojo. Yesterday when I was fishing the flats with some customers a seagull flew right over me and crapped all over my new hat. Now I knew it was a lucky hat and I did not wash it off at all. {end side note} We started working this third and final area this afternoon around an hour before sunset and I immediately hooked into a frisky fish. I had no idea what it was. The conversation sounded like this, "Snook... ah... no Red... then we see a silver flash, gar... no Red... what the hell is that ?" Turned out to be my first ever BowFin. What a cool fish. Then we worked our way around the bend and into a sweet looking hole with a very large dead tree. It just looked like BIG SNOOK !!!
