We fished the Thousand Islands area of the Banana River out of Cocoa this morning with our kayaks. Each of us took several nice Redfish to 6 lbs. on Brown Muddlers and Yellow/White clouser.

Both Snook and Trout are becoming more active but those we released were below legal size.

I saw my first Anhinga out of water this morning - amazing bird. Has no oil in it's feathers so when swimming only its neck and head is out of water and it looks like a snake with a beak. I've seen several swimming but today's was the first out of water completely. Here are pictures of one out of water and another swimming with a small fish it had just caught.

Bill,
What type of Kayak do you use for the IRL & Banana River?

I have been looking at Heritage (Redfish) and Wilderness Sysyems (Tarpon) but I keep thinking a want more of a touring kayak. The "fishing" kayaks are all 30+ inches wide and I like a narrower boat to cover more water.

How wide is your yak?

Thanks

I'm currently using a 14' Heritage (SIS)sit-in-side that I brought with me from the Cape last year. It's not the best for down here and I intend to replace it with a SOT very soon. A friend here from NH fishes with a Wilderness Systems Tarpon that I'm impressed with.

The SIS are not practicle down here where you are fishing many flats that never rise above the water but you want to get out and wade frequently. The SOTs are much better for that cause you can sit on the edge without tipping it over.
