I am looking into a few of the different grills for a boat. This will be for a small 20 CC, and I was looking into one of the options that stuck into the rod holders or side rails. Didn't realize they were so pricey. Looks like there a few different options/ranges between brands. Any reccomendations! :-%

I have the standard magma round (kettle I believe) grill and it does a decent job but I'm not sure I'd want to be grilling anything on the open water unless it were a completely fac day. I believe the new models have an electronic ignition system which I highly recommend. Not too difficult to light but if the flame goes out with food on the grill then it can be a problem getting it lit again. Also be aware that certain types of fuel canisters seems to work better than others. Not sure why (need to look into it) but I've had better luck with some than others.
Personally I like the rod holder mount better - seems to offer a better hold and the height is usually ideal. Plus, you can easily fashion a 3' piece of PVC to throw in the sand when you are at the beach and use the rod holder mount to work with the PVC.
All in all I could not do without my grill. Nothing like cooking steak tips at the beach or even freshly caught tuna steaks courtesy of gaffman and stingray :-%

Thanks for the feedback. The small magma is the one I am looking at. I just suprised to how much they are going for! They seem like the leader from what I have read online. Some mixed reviews, from the older models and service from the company, but the past year and half have been stellar reviews. I can't wait to grill something on the water under the right conditions with a cold beer! :-%

I have the round kettle Magma as well. The price was right as I got it as a present. It is very solid and the rod holder funtion works well. I have the propane version which uses the small camping canisters.
My only complaint is that it does not get very hot or it takes a heck of long time to heat up - especially with any wind blowing. Gas does not burn as hot as charcoal but this one seems a bit underpowered for heating. I would think the charcoal woudl be better for cooking but is a bit more of a mess and hazard on for boating.
Any one else have similar results?

Telliedog - the temp issue is the problem I was describing above with regards to the different types of canisters I've tried. At home I've tried various types and some burn very hot while others take forever to heat up the grill and still don't provide a lot of heat. This spring I'll document my results and will post back on which work and which do not...
