Hello.. I just recently became a member of this site... Anyway i wanted to go into saltwater fishing here in NY/NJ Surf and boat fishing. I recently bought 3 fly rods 8wt, 9wt, 10wt Gloomis GLX crosscurrent ... i need help with fly lines now. If you where in my shoes what fly lines are you gonna use for those 3 rods for the type of fishing i will do. Let me know what you guys think. Looking forward to your reply.

Hello & welcome!

I have all 3 of those rods.....:brow

They throw the 40-plus lines really well in intermediate and fast-sink. Might want to get a floating as well.

I would put a floating line on the eight weight, an intermediate on the 9 and a heavy sink on the 10. That is pretty much how I do things.

I echo what FMW said.

The eight floater and nine Int. would be fine in the surf and shallow water with the boat. The Full Sink 10 would be the go to for bait and fish down low off the boat.

For somebody just getting in you INVESTED big time in jumping into the game. All the best and enjoy.

im very serious when it comes to fish ... thats why i buy the quality ones that will last a long time ... anyway what specific lines brands etc. would you recommend? for the full sinking how many grain would be perfect for the 10wt?

Those rods will be sweet. I bought an 8wt. Airflo Coldwater (I) last season which was pretty nice. Search this an the NE board with fly line choices and you'll read plenty on Airflo, Rio, Orivs, SA, etc.

take a look at the rio striper-clouser line-kind of a highly refined bass taper . it comes in floating and intermediate. it is designed to throw big weighted flies which is generally the pattern needed for stripers. as for the sink tip, i mostly use a longer heavy 325-425 grain sink tip 20+' (on an intermediate line) depending on how deep the water is and/or how fast the current is moving. when the water is fairly shallow or in the fall when the bait is closer to the surface and the sun and heat aren't too bad, i will sometimes go with a clear intermediate 10' sink tip-i like the cortland.

I have the GLX CC 8wt. and 9wt. and on both rods I have the Rio Outbound
lines with different sink rates. Like to know why you purchased all three rods at the same time. My friends who don't cast as well as I, have trouble with these rods. They are high performace rods but to maximize their stenghths you really need to know how to cast well. Good luck!
