--124-3 New to fly fishing and newer to the Pemi. I actually never been to lincoln NH before. I am staying in Lincoln (Deer Park/ Loon townhomes) with the wifey and newborn for a fun family vaca the 1st week in April. It happens to be 50' for the pemi..... Soooooo. Why not cast a few?

Could use advice on what i should be presenting and what has been happening on that section of the river. Unfortunately, i wont venture outside the Lincoln stretch.

There is also a 5 acre spring fed pond on the property. anyone here fished it before.

THANKS!!!!! if your around i will treat you to a beer:-%

technically, the river running through lincoln and the base of Loon mountain is the Easy Branch of the Pemi. Never fished the pond. I fish there quite often because I am a big fan of cold rivers with large rocks and crystal clear water. I have on numerous occasions watched trout feed in about 10 ft of water from a rock above. Really gorgeous. I just hope you won't be there the weekend of the concert weekend or whatever when there is about 1,000 hippies sleeping along the river and floping around in it all weekend. That has ruined one nice weekend of fishing for me, but I won't let it happen again.

Try alot of nymphs, especially beadheads, fished low and slow behind the big rocks. You will be surprised with what is going on down there. Then hit some of the long rapid sections with olive or brown beadhead wooly buggers. I have had some fish on cream variant type dry flies, but haven't spent too much time with dry flies as I am usually ther during the day.

Don't expect big fish, but I have had more than a few saturdays with 25+ fish....I've also had a few 1 fish days, but that's neither here nor there.

When the fishing is done, hit the Woodstock Inn for the best selection of microbrew beer in new england (personal opinion).

The Pemi is really a nice area to fish. Either the East or West Branch as well as Lost River. I'm just not sure how much open water is going to be there. We still have several feet of snow on the ground here in central NH. April 1st is the beginning of the LL Salmon season in open water. See attachment: http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Newsroom/News_2008/News_2008_Q1/Landlocked_Salmon_Opener_032508.html This might give you an alternative to the northern Pemi.
Over the years I've had better results a little further south. Check out the river south of Lincoln ie: Rt. 175 Iron Bridge where it crosses the river is a nice run and easy to approach. There are several nice stretches as you move south to the Thornton area. Good Luck!!

I would think it would be tough fishing the Pemi next week. I would sugest you head down to the Newfound in Bristol.

There is also excellent still water fishing in the area also (if thats your cup of tea).

If you have access to a yak you must try Stinson Lake in Rumney. (access via Tenney Mtn. Hwy., Exit 26 off 93)
Sky Pond for brookies and rainbows in New Hampton -fly only- (Exit 23)
Mirror Lake in Thornton is always great, secluded, white mountain offering also.

Also, a few exits North of where you're staying - in the Franconia Notch, there is a great fly only pond right off of 93, you can see from along the highway, you can't miss it. I forget the name though.

Either way there are plenty of options for you in the area.

All the ponds up north should be locked up tight for awhile.
