I fished the spring creeks area of butternut on Saturday(I believe that's the name of it) south of syracuse, what a beautiful little spring creek trout stream. I didn't have much success, but to be honest, I am not much of a fisherman compared to some of the guys on the board. I did however hook up with a 12+ inch trout, but it was for about a 1/2 a second, I saw him flash as he spit the fly out while I was twitching the rod tip to get the heavy wolly bugger 'unstuck' from the bottom. Little did I know that on this 3000th bottom snag, it was actually a fish! So guys, keep that in mind, it is never the bottom, and always treat it like a fish. Because that twitch probably cost me my largest trout ever. (I usually fish very small brooks in Maine for 8"-10" brookies)

Anyway, thought I would write a report, it was a great time, and I did see a few more signs of fish all day, two rises, and one big splash. Other than that, it was 6 hrs on the river, with one hit. But hey, it was March 22nd!

Ian,
Are you sure it was not the Butternut Creek area rather than Buttemilk? If it was the Butternut, we used to play there a lot as kids on visits to the grandparents farm, and I know there were some trout in there, too.

After double checking, it is the butternut creek. I will try to update the post. I was down in the Apulia area.

Yep, that's the place...my grandparents had a farm in Apulia Station. Thanks for inducing the nostalgia.
