After work, I decided to get of the house for an hour and a half to wet a line and was finally rewarded for my effort - after several trout skunkings this early season. I was all alone at a Metro West area stocked river while just moments away, a popular stocked lake was probably taking a beating from the after work/school crowds.
I ended up with 4 rainbows landed with 2 other lost as well as the fattest yellow perch I've ever seen - I think it was female spawner as the swollen belly was actually reddish in color. 3 trout were taken on small kastmasters and the fourth on a wooly bugger fly (as was the perch)...
One thing I would say is that it doesn't seem they stocked many bigger fish this year - at least at this location...the fish ranged from 10-12 inches, although one of them had 'shoulders' despite its not very impressive length. I've had years at this location where I never caught anything under 15".
So that was a start anyway - hoping for bigger game Wachusett this weekend - and then on to the salt...Maybe I can swing both this weekend:brow
