I own a 10wt rod, presently the only line I fish with it is a 10WF-I. which works OK in general. But, I have an extra spool I want to load with another line to give more options.

I wade-fish mostly (beaches, open and sheltered on the MA coast) and also have a kayak that I use in bays, coastal rivers etc. I own an 8wt rod with both 8WF-I and 8WF-F lines. This works great in sheltered water, but when the fish are deep or I want to fish in less than ideal conditions I prefer the 10wt.

Does anybody have recommendations for me on what kind of line to get to expand my 10 wt outfit? I am an OK caster, but it's not my strong point compared to reading the water, finding fish, presentation. So I don't want to add a line that is difficult to cast or tangles easily. Any suggestions? Price is a consideration, but I am not against spending if it brings quality, ease of use and options.

I would go with a full sinking type 3 line for your 10wt, and the one I have used with success is the Scientific Angler Wet Cel. It gets the fly down in most rips without waiting too long. Hope this helps. Ron

The cheapest and easiest thing to do is, buy some different size sink tips, or make them, and Put a floating line on the spare spool for when the fish are on top, and have the option of using the sink tips on the floater or the int. depending on which spool you have on.
The problem with the 10wt. and looking for the proper sinking line to go with it from mostly the shore, is you need around a 400-450 grain head to load the 10wt. properly, and that is kind of a load for the type of fishing it sounds like you are doing, and trying to pull that 400 grain out of the water in a kayak might be tough also, but with the different lengths sink tip it should make it a little easier for you.
Another idea is to use a somewhat longer leader with heavier clousers, just make sure the tippets are heavy enough for the extra lenght leader, and the heavier clousers.
Just my thoughts, and hope it helps you.

I use a 400 grain full sink line on my 10 weight. You'll probably find yourself using a line like this much more than you think. I'm partial to the Orvis Depth Charge lines (maybe because it was free). The Rio and Airflo lines are nice too.
