I slipped into a local pond last night ...only one hidden access ... everything else is private. I found plenty of fish ... nothing real big ... but nice variety and everything looked so healthy... quite a change. Felt like I was in NH not MA.
Most ponds I'm in are mud bottom, weedy, and murky.
This one had clear water, few lillies but no weeds, and abundant variety of fish.
I caught a huge crappie ... saw plenty of yellow perch, loads of small bass and the pond bottom was leave covered and hard soil undernearth. The spawning fish could actually clear their spawning beds. Deep water in the middle .. nice swimming.
The people with houses on that pond have it good.
I have to lay down the kayak for a couple weeks tho ... I had a mt bike wreck last Thusday night ... small tear in shoulder AC ligament .. kayaking and fishing is aggrevating it. Today doc said if I want to get better I need to be smarter. --124-3
So please post your adventures, while I'm on the bench.

Here's the few pics I snapped at the pond last night.
I realized now that I only took pics while in the first cove I entered into ... nothing in the open part of the pond. Preoccupied I guess.
Funny thing was a farm bordered the pond ... so I heard the sound of sheep the entire time. Between them and the geese it was quite a racket. Pretty place tho.

Sorry to here about the shoulder Greg.....you need to learn to cast with your other arm.
I haven't been warm water fishing yet this year. Unless you count taking the kids over to a pond to drown some worms. However...I have a tournement at a lake on the Cape on Saturday so that will change soon.

yeh, sorry to hear about the shoulder man...the year before last I blew out a tendon in my elbow (casting arm) it took about two months of weight lifting to be able to sling my nine weight in the surf...you'll probably be up and running though in less time than you think if you take it easy...again, nice pics my man!

sweet pond. sorry hear about the shoulder. I was diagnosed with a partially torn rotator cuff last year, no surgery or treatment needed (yet) and luckily Ive been pain free since last august.
nice. BTW, that pic that is not a bass is a very big bluegill, not a crappie. Just tell me to shut up if you already know that, but I figured that was the big crappie you mentioned.
good luck, Imand seriously thinking about getting a kayak next year thanks to you, my tin boat is great, but I need lakes with easy access for a trailered boat and as a result cant fish the hidden gems like the ponds you've been on lately.

Can you still tie flies?
I'm hoping I can tie well with this shoulder thing ... cuz I could not tie worth a dam before.
That's a good idea tho ... I bought some green foam to try a frog ... maybe I'll get tothat this weekend.
Hi ECE ... fortunately I'm better than the rotor cuff issue you had ... thanks for feelin my pain tho.
Yes, I was impressed at the tenacity of that lil Punkinseed ... hit like a bass ... I usually just get Bluegill harrasement, but I like the bright colors on this type of sunny. I lost the big Crappie at the boat while fiddling for my camera tho ... he was the size of a small fry pan. ;)
Now that you mention it ... I wonder if the Pumpkinseed is a cross between the Crappie and a Bluegill ... Kinda looks like it, eh?
I hope you do get a kayak ... really opens up other possibilities.

You are right about that fish being a pumpkinseed, and a nice sized one at that. Pumpkinseeds are a species in their own right and are not some sort of hybrid. Unlike bluegills, they are native to MA.
