Want to rig my 10 wt for barracuda on a trip to Central America this summer and teach any bone-eating barracuda a proper lesson, or at least try. Any advice on using wire bite leaders with a fly to catch barracuda, specifically Surflon wire? Preferences as to the length of the bite leader, color of the wire (black, silver or red), knots to use to attach the fly to the wire and the wire to the leader, and # test wire to use? Thank you in advance for your help.

I have not had great success with Surflon. It seems to get pretty messy after just one hit. I have had much better luck with titanium. Malin used to make a product called BOA. It may no longer be available, but there are other titanium products out there.
I attached the titanium wire (about 18 inches) to six feet of flourocarbon with an albright knot. The fly can be attached to the titanium wire with a simple clinch knot.
Of course, you could also purchase the pre-made leaders from Sci-Anglers.
Good luck! Make sure you post the photos if you land any.

I use 'American Wire" . You will be able to tie knots (some). Check it out.
Good Luck.
