Got out yesterday to be a part of something new to me. Had a blast. Just thought I'd share a few pics. I'll be out of the game fish-wise for a bit, as I had hand surgery this a.m., but will be back at 'em when the old paw heals up. Until then, I'll be fishing vicariously through some folks here. Big thanks to SQ for having me out.

Sometimes we have to remember that the primary goal of fishing has always been to provide dinner...;)

Nope, and that's ridiculous. Everyone knows that scallops respond best to being Tasered. Get a clue, dude! :-%

What, are you kidding me? By the time the lads got back with the second haul, I'd reduced the take. I of course chastised them for not realizing they had grabbed quite a few shorts, and that being the ever-ethical fisherman, I had to toss them back. :brow

That was a rather silly question to pose of you my friend now wasn't it!!?? (#$119)

The young irish lad and crew came down last evening for our own little banquet of raw fish as well.........and even though my cutting skills aren't quite ready for primetime.......all enjoyed immensely! (i'm getting pretty decent at the spicy rolls by the way........)

Dive scallops.:brow

Pan seared with a mango aioli.
Pan seared in a chipotle aioli.
Pan seared in a basil aioli.

Ceviche, in a champange glass, with a squeeze of fresh lime, a drizzle of EVOO, sea salt, and a turn of fresh black pepper.
All of the above with a nice sauvignon blanc.:-%

Someone seems pretty clearly to know a thing or three about mollusks, and fine foods. Gimme' a snort of bourbon, though. ;)

Weird. Almost any decent to good sushi joint I know of has scallops. They're called 'hotategai'.

My wife has a recipe that she got from some cooking magazine: Ginger, garlic, mirin wine, rice wine vinegar and white miso paste and of course sea scallops. Put them in the sauce for a few minutes then sear them up then cook the rest of the sauce and toss it all with Soba noodles. It is a family favorite...But dang!!! Just browned up like that they look so pure, I can practically taste them.

I might have to play with trying to keep the flavors more pure with scallops (we have enjoyed the hotategai we have had in the past). Were those just seared in a pan or was something promoting the browning and searing that I see?

White wine and bourbon, nah, personally, I prefer a couple ta half dozen Sierra Pale Ale with most of my seafood. That plate of seared scallops and a couple of Pale Ales would be just about the perfect meal right now. I like my fin fish, but would always trade it for a plate of shellfish.

Happy Fourth
