Has anyone used these. I was thinking of putting a bow mounted motor on my boat untill I saw this.

Do a search for the term 'navigator' under my username 'daleh' and you'll find a few threads about the competivie brand sold by the name Navigator. If you like that, contact Peter Fallon @ Gillies & Fallon Guide Service, http://www.mainestripers.com/ .
Good luck!

The engine mount motors work fine but you are very limited to where you can fish them...they are good for keeping you in place on a river or along the beach but they don't allow you to raise the motor up to get into shallow water. The trim tab motors allow a little more versatility but I'm not a fan of them for the price. In use a bow mount with remote. I was affraid of useing one in the past as I though it would clutter up the deck and get in the way for fly casting. BUT I was wrong these things are the most versitile as you can set the depth at which the motor runs, they turn you more easily being bow mounted, they have a clean small mounting block so when you don't want the trolling motor you just pop it off and put it in the garage.
Just my 2 cents ;)

I have never owned trim tab style.
So these are just my ramblings.
I have had trolling motors on both the back and front of my boats.
I found bow mount much easier and effective with any wind or current.
Rear mount ... unless your going down wind ... you're always working to keep the bow forward, while it wants to travel to one side.
Bow mount is much easier to position the boat with less energy, which means battery life.
To turn a boat with trim tabs .. now your running 2 motors in opposite direction.
Next time your at Home Depot ... take a lumber cart. First try to turn the front while only holding only the back of the cart. Then go to front and take one finger and turn the cart. Which was easier? ;)
That'll be 2 more cents please.

Thanks guys.
All good info. I am edging towards the bow mounted but have a railing issue to deal with.

That's a valid concern.
Here's what another guy did in that situation:
"I have an 18 Dauntless and put a bow mounted trolling motor on it with a bow rail. I struggled with it for a long time and eventually ended up cutting the rail. I could not find any motor that would fit but the Power Drive by Minkota was the closest. I had a guy here in MI fabricate two hinges with pins and it works great. When I bass fish a just pull two pines and take the center section out. I leave it out all day and it even looks like it’s a factory option. The best part is when I go to put the boat on the trail it makes a great pass through to step down on the spare tire and hook up the wench.
Only negative is does rattle a little and it does add some noise when you’re in big seas (2-4) and the boat is taking a pounding.
I use a Minkota 65 LB 24 volt system with the remote. The remote is the best part."

I have a Key West 19. I am thinking if I extend the railing 6 inches at the very front of the bow I can then mount and drop the motor inboard of the railing. A very easy fix if it works. Will let you know.
