What is the downside of not fogging an outboard for the winter? What did they use before fogging oil? cjd

-risk of corrosion of internal parts, ie pistons etc.

-used to pour oil down the carb on inboards/cars with horizontal carbs. same effect.

... and Marvel Mystery oil poured into the cylinders with the flywheel turned over slowly with the plugs out.

But then again, Seafoam can fog an OB and that's been around since ol' Ole Evinrude perfected the OB motor and began selling them in quantity.

How long does winterizing last? Should it be re-done every year even if the boat was never used and in outdoor storage?
