Another great fly fishing day in Montauk, the pictures I took say it all. My fav is the middle one with the bass coming out of the water.

Going back for more tomorrow! :-%

Nice. Did you run into any bass 30 inches or over? About the time of year they should start showing up. Thinking about heading over Tue.

If Tuesday is anything like today, stay home and read a good book.

Couldn't get out today, blowing bad. We did run into a bass blitz by the harbor.

No big bass yesterday or today, still eating small baits.

I screwed myself by trying to play the weather forecasts this weekend. Just before the weekend, the forecast was for Saturday to be somewhat warmer than today but breezy all day, Sunday was supposed to be cooler low 50's, but little wind. So, I made the deal with my wife to fish Sunday.

Of course, Saturday was warmer than expected and less breezy, Sunday a blowout.

Awesome pics. Much better than the ones I got on my cell phone! Just couldn't bring myself to break out the camera. We got pretty wet crossing over in the morning from RI with the strong westerly breeze but things really calmed down in the afternoon. Some bigger bluefish around but no big bass from what I could find. Tried going deep along the rips for a few hours but still only smaller (22"-25") bass and blues.

I was in the same boat...er, which means I never did get out in the boat today (Sunday). --124-3 Got to MTK around 6:30 am...wind felt like it was blowing at least 20, maybe more.... did a drive-by of the inlet, and it looked pretty bad, when I got to my marina I saw more boats coming in than going out. Did not see any center consoles or fly boats going out. I waited a couple hours fiddling around with the boat and driving out to the Point, where the water was more whitecaps than anything else...saw a couple 6-pack boats rolling around A LOT. It did not look fun. Decided today was not the day to push the envelop, so never left the dock.

On a lark, drove by Ditch...for a short time there were some BIG blues crashing in the wash. Of course, by the time I drove back to the boat to grab my flies and got rigged up with wire, it was over. Saw a couple blues landed that looked every bit of 15 lbs. Still hoping for a couple more weeks and some bigger bass.

Same here, we went to look at the water and found a big blitz, of course we had no rods. When we got back the blitz was right in front of us and had fun with small bass that until it ended, very windy and cold fun.

Have the same story as the rest of you. Weathermen were a day off on the forecast as the weather yesterday was actually what they forecasted to be on Saturday. Cant win em all right. Went to Gin beach at 7am Sunday to check the scene before jumping in the boat....Not good....4-5' rollers coming in from the NE, boat never left the dock.

Anyway, Saturday had major bird activity all along the northside from the jetties all the way east to Great Eastern. Caught mostly gorilla bluefish up to 15lbs on flies, spinning and diamond jigs. Landed a handful of bass, biggest being 35 inches or so. Later in the day the fish were tight tight in at Oyster Pond almost up to the shoreline with an armada of surf casters right on them. Was a fun day with sore shoulders by nightfall.

Too many family/yardwork obligations this past weekend and only had an opportunity to fish Saturday night in Shinnecock via kayak. If you're thinking back to that night and wondering about the north wind - yeah, it was there and I was anchored up in it. Tough night, no fish but plenty of shooting stars and a glowing anchor line due to the phosphorescence in the water. Wind is nothing now, though and I'm going to give it another shot before work. We'll see if some of those schools from Montauk have made to my little drop off...
