With a 30% chance of rain and snow showers this morning, I knew I couldn't pass up fishing with glacier gloves! Arrived to the Ponquogue Bridge this morning at 3:30 a.m. and if you're thinking it was brutal, you're right. Wind was NNE at 7, fingers were numb within 5 minutes, but there were plenty of fish to be had. :) Even better, there were no other fishermen to be found so I had them to myself. Fished until 4:45, landed 7 fish to 27" and perfectly matched to the 8 wt. Dropped 4 or so fish and really didn't go more than 3 casts without a hit. With the winds that have blown every weekend, I've got to take what I can and if that means fishing before work, so be it. Good luck all!

If those are my last fish of the year, I can live with that. Not quite done, though. This Saturday looks like it was made for the guys who use tip ups on the lakes in the great white north. 19 degrees Saturday night!!! I'll draw the line there, thank you. Maybe the Thanksgiving break will give us all a break. Peace.

Hit the Shinnecock surf this morning from about 7:30 - 9:30. Two dozen or so trucks on the beach already and figured things might get interesting. Gannets were evident off the beach a ways and around 9:00 they got pretty close to the east jetty where I was alone fishing from the end. There's something about watching gannets at close range and I felt like something might just happen - but no. Over the past several years, I've heard of a post-Thanksgiving blitz of big bass on herring at Shinnecock - just waiting to see it for myself.
