I will be in Rio Mar (about an hour east of SJ) for a week at the end of december. any advice on DIY fishing? will there be tarpon in SJ harbor then? any spots to try? what about beach fronts? bones? snook?
you may want to check out the flyfishingforum.com. juro fishes pr regularly and knows the scoop.

I do a bunch of stuff in PR each year. Mostly the two outer small islands. SJ harbor always has tarpon but you need a boat to fish it really and guide. It's also not a great fly fishery in the SJ lagoons...lots of fish but really a live bait (pilchard) fishing...
Lots of beach fronts to just throw a fly or plug from but you will be on the north shore of PR and it always has pretty good surf up there. the best fishing is off the south side and the islands (vieques and culebra). I'm sure you can find some jacks and snappers, cudas and such off the beaches but nothing consistent really.
Wish i had better news for DIY....
