Fished Wednesday 11-26-08 Wind BLOWING as USUAL!!!!! Fished with my friend Mike, with water tempetures starting to drop quickly, water surface was between 46--48 degrees, we might have one of the shortest late seasons in many, many years--124-3. We still caught and released over 325 schoolies!!! Yes I said THREE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE, schoolie stripers, largest was 29&1/2" All caught and released on small artificials. It was hard to keep counting and catching, but we wanted to know how many we landed in boat. caught 2 with tags in them, 1 HRF belly tag and 1 Littoral Society back tag. Tagged 5 myself. Here's a pic of Mike with a nice NY Harbor schoolie!

If only some of those 300 fish could have been out here tonight - I fished the back of Shinnecock for about an hour at the bottom of the tide for nothing. And it's a long hour when your right foot goes numb trying to eek out the last moments of life in a set of waders that could have been ditched in July. Conditions were actually not too bad and definitely fishable - there were some spearing and some kind of worm drifting out with the tide. I've seen these worms in previous years from mid November on, but don't know what they are. Pinkish red, pencil width and length - like a mega cinder worm.

I never like to say it, but the fat lady is warming up out here. I'm not giving in yet, but I'd be happy if over the weekend I could find a school of shad and have at 'em with the 8 wt. Good luck all!

Made it out Turkey day morning with my father and my 2 little dudes, 5 and 7.Had to be home "no later then 12:30" but we did it. Lots of schoolie action- the kids had a blast. This is the second thanksgiving day in a row we fished. I think we officially started a new family tradition! Hope to make it out Sat. We'll see what happens.

I don't know if she is singing, and I'm holding out hope that the herring haven't hit yet. Montauk was dead. I hit Shinnecock as well on the way home. Nothing.
The guide we were supposed to go out with thinks things are just running late.

Fished Friday , stripers still allover NY Bight!!!! Wind Got INSANE (#$119) in PM gave my friend my "Last Rites" as we tried to fight seas back in!!! Saw forecast was better for Saturday, what the heck, went again, what a difference a day makes, with light winds, fishing was just superb! Large flocks of birds working in middle between Breezy point and Sandy Hook, lots of boats working them, medium bass NO keeper size, there, Breezy Point and Coney Island produced lots of nice fish with a bunch of keeeper size over 28" in the mix. Fished about 22 hours this week Weds, Fri, & Sat landed, caught and released over 500 stripers with with friends, 2 of the days, out of all that ONLY about 20 were 28" or over! Boy am I gonna sleep tonight!

Glad to hear you were able to get out. This has got to be one of the windiest novembers ever - especially on the weekends. Saturday was the first good one of the month, and I had to work --124-3 I was out between Sandy Hook and Ambrose channels Thanksgiving morning, and there were birds and bass all over. I tried tossing flies at them, but the current and the wind were both cranking, and I couldn't get a decent cast without drifting down on it in two seconds. I didn't want to catch them on spinning gear, so I left them and went blackfishing. They taste great :)
I'd really like to get a shot at some bass on the fly, but the forecast still stinks for today and Monday. Oh well.

Late report- Went out Sat. for a few hours with my sister's boyfriend, who never caught a striper before. He could not believe the action! Drop and reel light tackle battles. "You sure we can't keep any of em?" No!!! Someone used to freshwater just doesn't understand! "You can't even catch that many sunnies that fast!"
