Are there any good places to fish from shore around there? How's the action been around breezy point?

Talked my father into helping me take the kids out one last time this morning. Dead calm at home at 6 am- figured we'd have a great day ahead of us. Arrived at the VZ around 8:30 for a sloppy mess, ripping incoming and hell of a south blow. 43 degree dirty water and hardly a tap. I would've put money on it that we would slay them, but no such luck. Came inside for some protection and bounced around for 2 fish- and 1 was a 28" keeper! Talk about 2 happy little campers, thats all they wanted was a keeper and they got it. 5 and 7 year old boredrom turned into poking and prodding infatuation. I've got 2 lil troopers that never once complained about the cold or slop- great morning!

I made it out to Breezy around 10:30 this morning and there were birds & fish all over. I had one on the second cast with the popper & thought it was going to be a slaughter, but the fish were very picky. Had a couple on the bucktail & headed in at noon.

Tomorrow's forecast stinks again, but I might give it a shot anyway.

Saturday morning left the dock w/ high hopes at 7:00 PM Temp 29 degree seemed much colder. Winds predicted to be 10-15 k NW were actual 19K NW w/ higher gusts.
Ran along the edge of Ambrose channel looking for signs of life but only found a barren sea. Reached Breezy Point found a few birds but that was it after an hour of casting frozen bucktails decided to call it quits when the decks iced over. It was just too dangerous to fish
With wind & the sea rising headed back home
Ran into a head sea now along with a frozen deck the console iced over and started to look like igloo. By the time, we reach Norton’s Point the boat looked like a Popsicle. Ran for home w/ out a fish.

Conditions Saturday went from “This is not too bad” to “What are we doing out here” within an hour.
Lesson Learned Listen to your Wife: Quote “It’s to windy to fish”

Sunday managed to get out at noon caught a half dozen shorts for an hour fishing Temp mild, Sea Conditions moderated, Water temps 44 Water dirty looked like a lumber yard w/ all the floating debris

Met Died Hard Fisherman Fishing Mission Great minds think alike.

Around 8 this morning the bay seemed fairly calm, so we decided to give it a go despite an ugly forecast. THAT was a mistake. We didn't even get to Breezy Point. By the time we were a half-mile south of Norton's, we were faced with some steep 5-footers that were enough to convince us to change plans. We did an about face and headed towards the VZ, looking in towards Cesar's Bay for bird life, but found none. Went as far as the SI Ferry terminal before turning around and heading south again. By the time we were back in Raritan bay it was a total mess. I didn't get the engine up over 2400 rpm the whole ride back to Great Kills.

We didn't make a single cast.

Fished Sunday 12/14/08. With my NEW E-Tec having a BLOWN #2 cylinder, I fished on Retired millitary Colonel Paul's boat "Renegade" with my girlfriend. It was breezy but fishable. Jigged a bunch of schoolies in NY Harbor, decided to head out towards Breezy Point- wind against tide at Jetty producing 5 to 10 footers(#$119), decided to head out in middle. Found birds over bass and ofcourse Professional "Itsmoderating" a/k/a Mike was in the blitz ( attached a pic of him in his super-sized center console ) and pic of me with a schoolie. Water was VERY murky and with a full moon ripping tide made fishing difficult. Between the 3 of us we landed 20 schoolies ( no keepers ) with Joyce the high hook ( man I taught her too well!!! --126-3-) If I don't get out again, this year HAPPY HOLIDAYS & TIGHT LINES to ALL!!!!!!!!!

Try one last time before pulling the boat. Left the dock late in morning first stop Norton Point found some birds diving but they were no gulls or gannets just two large birds hitting the water. No one home so I moved out to the edge of Ambrose Channel Lifeless than to Breezy Point not a bird, a bass or a mark on the recorder
Headed home in the hail strom that turned into snow
That is it for my season hauling the boat.
See you all in the spring
MERRY CHRISTMAS --125-3
