What could turn out to be the coldest day of the year here in Southwest Florida, and we dressed warm and headed out in search of some action. We were possibly the only poeple headed fishing at the boat ramp this morning. Dressed like we were bft fishing in November, we found the strong North wind had blown the tide out way past the predicted mid day low. Once the tide was able to gather steam against the strong wind the water started to pour back in on the flats. It was mid afternoon and we were poling the AC through 1-2 feet of water in search of Reds when I spotted the first large Snook laid up on the sandy bottom. They were out in the open and BIG. It is not every day that we find these large Snook out in the open in places where we actually have a chance at catching them. We worked the for a few hours and land this monster. It was around 19 lbs. and only 35" long. What a fight. The fish took around 100 yards of braided line off the reel in seconds. We also caught some Reds, Trout, and a Ladyfish, but the story of the day was this Snook. We managed one nice one under the lights last night on the fly rod as well...
