mexican fishing license

good morning. we are off to southern yucatan Feb.5. planning on doing lots of guided fishing but aslo quite a bit on my own. I downloaded 2 fishing license forms from conapesca. if I mail these special delivery do with a return stamped envelope today do you think I will get the licenses' back in time. also I have heard you also need a daily use permit now near Xcalak for swimming,snorkellling or fishing in the reserve. any ideas or comments.

Skip- I think I called Conapesca in SD last time and asked them how fast they could turn it around. I think I got it in 7-10 days by Priority Mail (2-3 days). I'd call. I think you can get the local license on the ground. I know you can get a Sian Kaan license at the guard house (or next door) if anybody is there?!?(#$119)

thanks, called sd and they gave me hook,line and sinker tackle shop which will issue a license with a credit card then mail priortity.

Hey Skip,

In Xcalak, you're supposed to get a daily wrist band (i think they're like $4.00 per day) for fishing because it's a marine park. The place we stay have some on hand because they say that isn't impossible to buy one because the office is always closed, etc. I I just carried the same one with me all the time. If they check it, it's punched so you'd have to get a new one.

As for farther north, unless they changed the laws this year, you only need a fishing license if fishing from a boat- not if you're on foot. If you're going out with a guide, the guide is suppose to include the license in you trip price.

Wyfish is correct (as I recall) no license for fishing "on foot". Sian Kaan (Boca Paila, etc.) does have a wristband as well, and they are availble from the "ranger station" when it is open, which is rarely (#$119).
They may have them at the little store next to the station as well.
