I am planning a trip for my fathers 60th. Did Belize and Guatemala already and was hoping to some other ideas (considering Long Island Bahamas). Would be interested in both guided and DIY. Mostly bones, but would like to reef fish and possibly get out for mahi, wahoo etc...
Any advice or recommendations? Thanks in advance...

Here are a few options you could check into that could provide what you are looking for.
Grey's Point on Acklins is located right on a bay that has good and easily accessable DIY. They have canoe's and kayaks for use inside the bay and creek system. You could do a combination of guided and DIY. They also have a blue water boat that they could take you out in. Nice rooms and good food.
Also on Acklins, Bob Bergquist has an operation out of Salina Point that included a day of blue water for under $2000 (2008 pricing). You could aslo work in some DIY there but you would need to rent a car. I have not been here but have heard good things and plan to make the trip.
On Crooked Island you do not have good DIY options but Pittstown Landing does have blue water and Frank and Ruths Guest House offers a lower priced option and reef fishing if you want it. Both have excellent guides.
If you want more details let me know.

Thanks Swalt! I've heard great things regarding both Grey's Point on Acklins and Crooked Island. I will definitely check into both locations. Thanks again!
