With a possibility of meeting up with Thunderrod, I headed off to the bait shop. Several were closed for the season and a couple did not open until 9am. Finally got bait and head to Peter's. Eight guys were already fishing off the ramp and the word was sloooow. Only flags I saw were wind flags. Although some guy at the far side of the cove got something which he put into a cooler. Most of use quit by noonish. After running an errand I check out the ice at Wequaquet. People were fishing and ice sailing. Saw a couple guys come off the ice, one with a cooler of fish, the other with an impressive mixed bag stringer, which included a 14# pike.

I would avoid the Peter's pond parking lot if you only have 2 wheel drive or bring a bag of sand.

I've only been there one time before - are you referring to that small parking lot at the boat ramp (not sure how many other places there are to park on that pond)...If so, I can understand since it's one continuous slope downhill to the water...

Gee Bob, sorry we missed you. I didn't get your return message until we got back from fishing yesterday. I didn't think you got it in time.

We ended up on the other side of Peters. We arrived at just at sunrise. Had the whole pond to ourselves at first, but the ice looked a little scary, so at the outset we stayed close to access area.

Had a quick pick-up and drop right off the bat on a tipup, then nothing for the first 2-3 hours. Then we got overrun with people coming in from everywhere, drilling to our left, drilling to our right, 5… 10… 15…20 guys…on and on and on they came. By 10:00 the pond was filled with about 200 tipups end to end.

All in all it was slow. We were beginning to think it was going to be a total washout when we finally got our first trout on the ice, a nice fat 16” brown caught on a tipup. This was around 9:45 or so… (so why get up in the dark and arrive before sunrise if the fish are going to sleep in!?)

We opened up a couple holes and did some jigging with soft plastic Curly Tail Grubs on a leadhead. Before long I had a solid hit and landed a nice 14” rainbow. My son had 2 hits and misses later jigging the same hole, but dropped both. As the morning wore on we got several more hit –n- runs (drops) on the traps, (in many cases the shiners were chewed and beat up), but nothing more. We left for home around 12:45 or so.

Anyway, every bit of action we got was in about 10’ – 15’ feet of water, literally about a short cast from shore. Didn’t get a single bump any deeper. Also, we didn’t have to break out the ice auger either, since it was basically “chip, chip, splash” on all the holes with the ice bar!

Most folks we talked to said the same thing about it being slow. One guy told me he had a buddy at the ramp where you were at (we were on the other side of the pond) and that no one was catching anything there. We heard a couple trout were caught near the center of the pond, plus I watched the same guys through the telescope fight “something” for about 15 minutes, (lots of line went out). A big group of guys gathered around the hole watching, but they eventually lost it I guess.

Again, sorry we missed you Bob. I didn't think you got my message in time. Next time I'll include my cell # in the message... duh...
