I'm curious to see how many Striped Bass you keep.

Please select a range that represents the AVERAGE number of Striped Bass you kept for recreational harvest over the LAST THREE seasons. If you're a guide this would apply to an average trip and yourself.

this should be asking how many fish you KILL, not just how many you keep. I only keep 1 or 2 fish/year, but unfortunately a kill a few more unintentionally.

I can give you answers from a few random boats out of Duxbury.

Chad F 9-15
Sea otter 20 plus
Jim C 1-3
Wasabi 1-3
PW 20 plus
one summer 9-15
Jim T 9-15
rum runner 20 plus
Neil C 20 plus
Will W 20 plus
sir reel 20 plus
S. Chisholm 3-6

The catch for these boats would be alot higher if it were not for the fact that most of thier trips target bluefin.
Also, the main method of fishing in this area is bait so these guys catch a high percentage of keeper fish. The numbers I post are from the most active weekend fishermen out of duxbury. I only picked those boats cuz I know what they kept the last few years.

Probably not a good idea to have guides post a daily average in a poll targetting annual harvest.

Total for my customers for 2008-13. I kept 2 myself for a cook out.

When I was fishing 2-3 days a week before moving here; I tried to take no more than 2 per season. However, now and then you kill a fish unintenionally and I have.

It is quite transparent what is happening here.......Using the results of this poll to come up with a total kill figure for the rec fishermen would be soooooooooooooo wrong. It would defy all the rules of logic, of statistics and of social polling.

Granted, if it were plausible it would be terrific propaganda but it will be seen for what it is. Bunk.

It would be foolishly inaccurate as well as misleading to use the results of this poll to extrapolate the average # of fish killed and multiply it times the number of recreational fishermen.... unless of course you believe (which I do not) that the registered members/posters/voters on Reel-Time are a fair and accurate representation of the "average" rec fisherman that tries to catch a striped bass.

I would suggest that the ability and catch rate of the participants of this self-select group would more accurately represent the top ten percent of the striped bass anglers out there.

I have no idea what conclusions are going to be drawn or taken from this poll but I would advise that the reader beware. Bunk in, bunk out.

I wouldn't say responding to this poll causes any issue. For one it's not going to be presented to any scientific community or lawmakers. Second, if they do see it and take it as scripture they would be very dumb. I think Ray is just trying to get an idea of what people are doing, not that there won't be a person or two who gives a false result, but I would like to think that the guys on this site are honest enough to respond accurately.

Respectfully, this is only a poll of the number of striped bass RT members keep. That's all. Each of us can concluded, or not, whatever we want.

There is no reason to be concerned about the results.
