Just wanted to share something special to me. My Dad was a New England Yankee who soon after graduation from UNH in 1942 went directly into the US Army (he was ROTC) and eventually wound up in the Pacific Theatre- New Guinea, and Philippine Islands fighting the Japanese. After the war he never returned to the east coast to live but instead married and settled in the islands of Hawaii. From a young age he was a fisherman, and his choice of boat was always a Dory. He has always owned a dory since his first in 1940 fishing when not in school until 2007 when he finally passed away right after his love of 60 years my mom passed away. I grew up with a love of the ocean my dad cultivated in me, but also his love of Dories even building a 21 footer back in 1984. When Dad passed away he left me his 15'6" Pearson Rowing Dory. It had sat for several years in dad's backyard neglected while he took care of my ailing mother. I repaired and painted any dry-rotted wood, polished the fiberglass hull, replaced the corroded zamak oarlocks with bronze ones, and added 3 rod holders, a pair of lighter Basspro holders on the gunwales for inshore trolling, and a heavier Scotty unit in the center for when I drag bait for bigger gamesters offshore on my 50 lb. rig. She's easy rowing and very seaworthy, I rowed her almost 8 miles in 3 hours on her maiden fishing voyage last April. I decided to name her after my Dad the "Nelson J. Fay" to honor his memory. I have taken her out into open ocean several times rowing her on my last fishing trip over 18 miles, and in the process hooking into a nice 40 pound Barracuda (Kaku) which I promptly released after taking pictures. Just wanted to share pictures of my Dory, his legacy with roots going back to New England. Thank you Dad I'll never forget you.

Great story, out in HA. you can hook some real monsters just off the beaches. Happy sleighride! It's a beauty.
